Calendar of the calls

The IDEAL PhD Programme has two calls for applications. Each call will be open for 12 weeks. After the calls closing, the applications will pass three main stages: 1) eligibility check, 2) evaluation and selection and 3) appointment phase.

      • First call: 16th January 2023. Closing: 10th April 2023 at 17:00 (CET)
      • Second call: 20th May 2024. Closing: 23rd August 2024

The IDEAL PhD Fellowships duration is 42 months.

    Recruitment process

    The recruitment process will be carried out by the selection committee ensuring an open, transparent and merit-based process. All eligible applications will be assessed by three independent evaluators and will be given a score, considering criteria of Academic & Professional Background (50%), Motivation Statement (30%), and references (20%).

        Academic & Professional Background

    Includes academic background, participation in research projects, complementary training and other relevant professional experience and achievements in a narrative-based CV.

        Motivation statement

    Relates to the interest, commitment and suitability for the doctoral project as well as the impact of the fellowship over the applicant’s future career.

        References

    Contains the reference letters in relation to the candidate application and profile of the referee.

    Top ranked candidates will pass to the interview, the next stage of the selection process, which will be evaluated considering criteria of Knowledge, Motivation and Potential of the candidate. The final mark for each application will be comprised of the score from the application and the interview, scoring with equal weighting.

    A total of 6 fellowships for each call will be offered to the top ranked candidates, and above the final score threshold, in order to cover a total of 6 PhD projects with the highest scoring candidates.

    Ensuring equal opportunities

Candidates with a career break will not be discriminated against and will have equal opportunities.

    Researchers with disabilities are supported and an MSCA Special Needs Allowance will be applied for to cover any additional costs that researchers with disabilities face due to the increased costs of their mobility. IDEAL PhD will also support applications from researchers at risk.

    IMDEA Nano is located in a fully accessible building according to national laws.
