- IDEAL PhD is the new IMDEA Nanociencia PhD programme co-financed by the Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions COFUND programme.
- IDEAL PhD will attract a total of 12 pre-doctoral researchers in two open calls to carry out their thesis project in one of the research areas developed at the Institute.
- The first call for IDEAL PhD closes on 10th April, 2023.
Madrid, 16th of January, 2023.
IMDEA Nanociencia opens the first call for the IDEAL PhD doctoral fellowship programme, which will attract 6 exceptional candidates to carry out their PhD in any of the research areas carried out at the Institute:
- P1 Nanotechnology for energy harvesting
- P2 Quantum materials at the nanoscale
- P3 Nanotechnology for health
- P4 Nanomagnetism in Information and Communication Technologies
- P5 Ultrafast phenomena at the nanoscale
- P6 Sustainable nanotechnology and critical raw materials
The main objective of IDEAL PhD is to offer first stage researchers an interdisciplinary doctoral project in nanotechnology and nanoscience, supervised by recognized researchers and with access to excellent infrastructure of the highest level. IMDEA Nanociencia will also offer a complete training programme in research and transversal skills, with activities and professional development opportunities. The IDEAL PhD programme aims to provide fellows with a dynamic research community and an international environment focused on interdisciplinary research.
The beneficiaries will carry out a 3.5-year (42-month) doctoral project during which they will be able to carry out a research stay (between 3 and 6 months) in a partner organisation. Partner organizations will offer fellows the opportunity to enrich their curriculum, gaining international and non-academic experience if they choose.
With the European seal of excellence MSCA (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions)
IDEAL PhD is co-funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) COFUND. Specifically, IMDEA Nanociencia has received €1.4M, of the €89M awarded in this programme. IMDEA Nanociencia is one of the 7 Spanish entities that have received funding in the last COFUND-MSCA 2021 call.
COFUND is the co-financing of regional, national and international programmes, framed in the Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions of the new Horizon Europe programme of the European Union. It is a co-financing mechanism whose objective is to promote excellence in the training of research staff, their mobility and the development of their professional career.
To be eligible, candidates must comply with the MSCA mobility rule, which encourages the mobility of research staff and their professional development, therefore applicants cannot have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain for more than 12 months in the last 3 years before the closing of the call.
Investigate in Madrid
The IMDEA Nanoscience Institute, created in 2006 at the initiative of the Community of Madrid, is an interdisciplinary research center dedicated to the exploration of basic nanoscience and the development of nanotechnology applications in connection with innovative industries. IMDEA Nanociencia has been a “Severo Ochoa” Center of Excellence since 2017, this is the highest national recognition for scientific excellence granted by the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness. The Institute is located and forms part of the UAM-CSIC Cantoblanco Campus of International Excellence, a highly competitive research environment worldwide.
